Pengalaman Dialog Blogger Bersama Teresa Kok
Aku: Boleh lah kata rapat. Kenapa?
Azlin: Apsal u buat benda2 ni kepada orang cina?
Aku: Eh?
Sofea (bukan nama sebenar): actually, u tak tahu Teresa.
Aku: huh?
Sofea: U telah digunakan.
Aku: What do u mean?
Sofea: lihatlah isu azan tu, Teresa lah yang hantar petisyen
Aku: Itu tak benar
Sofea: Jangan dolak dalik lah.
U have been receiving twisted stories.
Sofea: how dare she has guts to ask surau to lower down azan?
Aku: kalau azan pun, kau ni sembahyang subuh kat surau ke?
Sofea: aku terjaga dengan azan berkumandang
talian terputus tetapi bersambung balik
Sofea: Dari dulu lagi Teresa memang anti-Melayu. Tengok saja act dia kat Parlimen dari dulu?
Aku: sejak bila kau ikuti persidangan parlimen? Kau pergi parlimen ke?
Sofea: Taklah
Aku: Aku ikut parliament debates since 2001. Aku ada kolum Bincang Parlimen dalam Malaysia -Today. Recently, aku memang berada dalam parlimen. Teresa tak sentuh anti-Melayu pun? That is why, we need to have a dialogue with her. To know her side of the story.
Sofea: Boss aku panggil. Talk to you later.
Aku pun dikehendaki menulis temuramah ekslusif bersama beliau. Antara mereka yang hadir:
1. Tan Teck Chin
2. Amin Iskandar
3. Chan Chee Kong
4. Lu lu
5. Saadon Aksah
6. Wan Nordin
7. Pyanhabib
8. Redhuan D. Oon
9. Arif Abdul
10. Sinaganaga Origami
11. Irwan
12. Wan Hamidi Hamid
13. Al-Mustaqeem
14. Haim Ramlee
15. Ahmad Zabruel
16. Ana Nadia
17. Azizi
18. Medaline Chang
19. Richard Yeoh
20. Alex Yong
1. Saman terhadap Utusan atas tulisan Zaini Hassan dan Khir Toyo
2. Petisyen
3. Skirt di dalam masjid? (What a stupid propaganda)
4. Melayu dan Islam
5. Babi
6. Anjing

Khir Toyo further stoked the fires of racial and religious hatred against Teresa Kok and the the Chinese community when he wrote on July 9th 2008, in the Pembela Melayu blog to respond to a commenter,(read below). He alleged that Teresa Kok supported the petition.
"Pembela Melayu" Blog Admits Mistake and Apologises
The racist-Malay blog called "Pembela Melayu Sejati" website disappeared/deleted after it was reported to the police . Search on this link: http://pembelamelayu.com/.
Googling "Pembela Melayu" leads to this heading with deleted postings,
"Kami berikrar dan berjanji akan mempertahankan Hak Keistimewaan Melayu, Ketuanan Melayu dan Kedaulatan Agama Islam yang hendak dihapuskan oleh DAP Kafir Harbi" --Pembela Melayu Sejati
Another website called: "Pembela Hak Keistimewaan Melayu" at http://pembelamelayu.blogspot.
The racist Pembela Melayu blog after Malaysiakini reported on the azan issue following the arrest of Teresa Kok apologised to the Muslim community, (note, NOT to the non-muslims he had antagonised) and he said he hoped this is a lesson for himself in the future.
Excerpts of "Pembela Melayu"s posting (read here)

This is what Utusan Malaysia reported and quoted Khir Toyo: (read here)
[Khir Toyo implies DAP had petitioned to disallow "azan" broadcast]}

My Photo Was Creatively Put Up
Anti-ISA Candlelight Vigil at Blog House
Nat Tan, who MC'd for the evening, kicked off by mentioning how when he had been arrested, the knowledge that there were people outside supporting him helped give him strength. Then he asked for a minute's silence.
The people gathered around in the drizzling rain to hear a succession of speakers argue that the ISA is a reprehensible law, and should be repealed and detainees set free. You can get more information in the links below but the basic points were made by the President of the Bar Council Dato’ Ambiga Sreenevasan who reminded everyone that it was not just about the recently incarcerated ISA detainees, but all of them; YB Wee Choo Keong said that UMNO were making an intra-party problem a national problem; and YB Sivarasa Rasiah said that the government were trying to scare bloggers and the media into silence.
Faisal Mustaffa spoke in BM, so unfortunately I couldn’t understand, but I guess his clothes told me the bulk of what he was saying
Bloggers also spoke up - suggesting tactics to mobilise support, means for civil disobedience, and registering strong opposition to the ISA. Zorro spoke on behalf of RPK’s wife who couldn’t make it. Tony Yew also explained the current status of All-Blogs which is still in the process of registration. Interestingly, he explained that out of the seven who were a part of the process, five were journalists: this highlighted the close relationship between MSM and All-Blogs (itself a child of SoPo bloggers).
However, although there is something of a symbiotic relationship between bloggers and the MSM (the “phenomenon of blog scoops trickling into mainstream news”, for example), there is also tension – succintly expressed by Little Taffer who forcibly challenged the MSM do their job and speak out.
Overall, I didn’t recognise a lot of the people there, and I got the feeling that many were not necessarily bloggers. One interesting observation was how one speaker said that he wasn’t a blogger, but had been commenting since the days of ‘Free Malaysia’ (? not sure, I got the impression that he meant since the Reformasi period): I’ve noticed this before, that people who comment regularly feel a part of the blogger ‘community’, even if they don’t have a blog themselves. For me this kind of proves my point about the way a blog is, ultimately, a co-product of the readers/commenters and the blogger, in comparison to – for example – a newspaper column (more about this theoretical point relating to 'dialogics' in my online presentation).
As usual, in the SoPo context, blogs are very much an instrument – a platform for freedom of expression and political mobilisation; in this case, in addition, All-Blogs were able to invite some political players and provide the physical platform – the Blog House: this reflects the online space they provide for political dissent. So we see a coming together, both metaphorically and physically, of the on- and offline spaces which become points of confluence of social action and, in this case, reinforcing the symbolic value of blogs as agents/actants of freedom.

Pameran Pop Fiction: ‘Apa-apa yag Pop dari Minda’
Dari kiri: Azmin Hussein al-Marbawi, Sita (balu Allahyarham Jeri Azhari) dan Amir Zainorin
Karya Amir Zainorin
Karya Azmin Hussein al-Marbawi
Seni Pop

SELAK: The Review
Selak: Bersih's Journey towards clean and fair electionsBy: Faisal Mustaffa Publisher: REFSA, 72 pages
ISBN: 9789834372217
Review by V. PRASAD
THE Malaysian coffee table book is a thing of beauty is it not? Very often we are treated to a series of well-taken photographs and sycophantic text that put a gloss on a product that may or may not deserve the dazzling array of positive adjectives showered upon it.
Well, Selak is not your typical coffee table book.
There can be no doubt that over the last 12 months, public demonstrations such as Bersih, HINDRAF and the Bar Council marches have offered Malaysians an outlet for political and social expression. Last week's protest against the fuel price hike indicates that this phenomenon is not about to die down in the near future.
Selak is a book that captures the effort and co-ordination it took to paralyse the nation's capital on November 10, 2007 when tens of thousands of protesters took to the streets in the name of clean and fair elections and sought to present a memorandum to the King.
What impact this action had on the general election that followed four months later is of course debatable, but there is no doubt that the Bersih rally was an important day in Malaysia's political history.
The very purpose of Bersih's coming together was rooted in controversy, as it essentially stemmed from an expression of a lack of confidence in our Election Commission, not just by the three main opposition parties (PKR, DAP and PAS) but by a wide range of non-governmental organisations.
The flash-points of Bersih are well-captured in this book put together under the auspice of one of Bersih's co-ordinators, Faisal Mustaffa. We see how the loose coalition built up momentum through 2007's by-elections at Batu Talam, Machap and Ijok as well as through a series of workshops and conferences.
What this book does is actually give readers an insight into the logistics of such an undertaking ... in other words, we get to see that as far as Bersih's organisers are concerned, they were not trouble-makers out to disrupt this country's operations, but concerned citizens taking proactive steps to express their frustration with the electoral process.
Whether or not one agrees with the rationale for the Bersih rally or the manner in which it was executed, its background certainly makes for fascinating reading and the hundreds of photos tell a story of their own. That the text of Selak comes in two languages (Bahasa Malaysia and English) simply adds to its appeal.
Still there are some flaws in the book, not least of which is a series of typos on page 16, and at RM60, it might prove to be a little pricey. However as a document of political activism in an era of reform and change, it makes for compelling reading.

Perak mungkin 'rampas' tapak kem tahanan ISA

Bagaimana Isu Serangan Terhadap Teresa Kok Bermula?
i) Saya sendiri tidak pernah menerima aduan daripada penduduk di Puchong berkenaan dengan isu azan ini, jadi saya langsung tidak tahu tentang perkara ini dan saya amat hairan untuk mendengar tuduhan tersebut;
Siapa dia Teresa Kok?
- Exco Kanan Kerajaan Negeri Selangor
- Ahli Parlimen Seputeh
- ADUN Kinrara
- Setiausaha Organisasi DAP
- Tahanan ISA selama tujuh hari
Malam selepas dibebaskan dari ISA

Statement by 13 UN experts on global detention initiative
Thirteen independent experts of the UN Human Rights Council issued the following statement at the start of Dignity and Justice for Detainees Week -- a global initiative launched by the High Commissioner for Human Rights -- which takes place from 6-12 October 2008:
GENEVA -- "We strongly support the High Commissioner's initiative on improving respect for the human rights of detainees. As mandate holders of the Special Procedures of the Human Rights Council, we visit places of detention in many countries and receive information from all around the world. A serious problem we encounter is that often there are no proper records of those deprived of liberty, or, worse, they are held in places of detention that are not officially recognized. It is also of great concern that many people should not be deprived of their liberty at all, since their detention is arbitrary. Others are being detained solely on the basis of administrative orders unrelated to the criminal justice system, for example irregular migrants. Deprivation of liberty as such, whether lawful or not, makes persons extremely vulnerable to a broad range of human rights violations.
Often detention places undue restrictions on detainees including regarding access to health care and on their rights to food, education, privacy, family life and to participate in the political life of their country. Worse, in many cases, overcrowding, the lack of air and daylight and poor hygienic standards in detention literally make detainees ill as such conditions are conducive to the spread of disease.
Persons deprived of their liberty run an increased risk of being subjected to torture and ill-treatment, and in some extreme cases, to enforced disappearance. The range of forms of violence we have witnessed in detention facilities is wide and includes beatings and electroshocks to various parts of the body, threats, stress positions, burning, putting needles under fingernails, shooting, water boarding and sexual violence. Unfortunately this is by no means an exhaustive list, and new methods keep being invented.
All too often we have seen that discrimination existing in societies at large is exacerbated when people are deprived of their liberty. Even when policies and practices aim to treat everyone equally, they often overlook the particular needs of women, minors, non-citizens, the sick and the disabled. Poor detainees suffer disproportionally from overcrowding and their access to healthcare and food is often reduced to a minimum. Those detained far from home suffer the most for lack of family support. Members of vulnerable groups or women run an increased risk of falling victims to sexual violence and slavery-like practices within places of detention, frequently with the tacit approval of, or directly committed by, State officials. Too often detention serves as a means of punishment without educational opportunities, thus further marginalising detainees rather than helping them to prepare for release.
Since violations of detainees' rights by definition take place behind closed doors and, in many places, no effective channels exist to denounce them, injustice done to detainees all too often remains unknown of and unaccounted for.
On the occasion of the week on "Dignity and Justice for Detainees", we call on all States to do their utmost to ensure that detainees, as all other human beings, are treated with respect and dignity. We also appeal to States to provide for effective complaints and monitoring mechanisms in places of detention, including efficient avenues to challenge the legality of detention and access to legal counsel, with a view to making human rights a reality for them.
Signatories:
Mr. Philip Alston, Special Rapporteur on extrajudicial, summary or arbitrary executions;
Mr. Jorge Bustamante, Special Rapporteur on the human rights of migrants;

Facebook Fever (Demam Facebook)
Sometime in September 2007, I was invited from a friend in Bangkok asking me to try on new online networking called facebook. I was telling myself, "please, not another myspace, friendster and those f**king networking forums" that spams my email. "I have already hundreds email to delete everyday." But I subscribed to it, anyway, simply because I need to keep the discussion going with my counterpart in Bangkok and other part of the world.
Then, when it comes to October, we were planning a mass rally, the famous "BERSIH Rally". We were discussing the what are the methods available virtually to heat the campaign and getting the message across, besides everyday updating our official BERSIH website.
We came up with facebook. The people who are responsible (officially) in facebook campaign are Hilmi, Elizabeth and Robert Kee.Hilmi and Eli spent some nights to design their music video and uploaded it on to facebook.
I also use this method communicating with other comrades for smaller scale rally infront of embassies. We manage to do it in Jakarta, Seoul, Bangkok, Ulam Bator, Manila and London. I am quite impressive.
Some f the volunteers also did a global forum that pressures for clean and fair elections.
After the success of the rally, Malaysiakini realizes the effectiveness and wrote an article about it. They quoted some of our job in facebook as well.
Some politicians, either they are junior politicians, inexperience politicians, reluctant politicians, politicians wannabes promote their campaign through facebook.I shall not link to any of these examples because some of them are very sensitive and feel they are not junior, inexperience and reluctant. Normnally I will receive some nasty sms expressing their 'dissapointment. What the heck !
The next PM, Anwar Ibrahim also uses facebook to expres his mission statement. And of course, some hardcores are doing it for him.
Games? Sorry I will not accept any of the invitations. That includes super poke, zombies, vampire and what not.
Yes, you can also send greeting cards via facebook. It also reminds you on your friends birthdays.
A group of artist also uploaded their talk show in facebook. It is called Fairly Current Show. Bila nak interview aku?
An active blogger and a friend of mine, Nizam Zakaria mentioned that he has slowly move away from blogs and promotes his work through facebook.
Last Ramadhan, my friend managed to organize a buka puasa re-union via facebook. He is trying very hard to get in-touch with his old school friends until facebook did it all. Marvelous eh?
Why is it so effective?
Message that you sent to any of your 'friends' listed in your facebook will reach them via their email. So, you will not miss anything, unless you skip checking your email.
In management, they call it 'pull strategy' unlike other online networks where you need to go to their websites to update yourself. Facebook forces you to check your messages (if there is any).
The History
When Facebook was launched by Mark Zuckerberg in 2004 while attending Harvard University as a sophomore, it was designed as a way for college students to connect with each other. Users created a personal page and were able to accept or send out electronic 'friend' requests for people to be included in their networks. People who were 'friends' were able to keep tabs on people in their network, send messages and even connect with friends of friends. It was like an exclusive club, since it was open only to those with certain email addresses.
But as Facebook's popularity soared, its founders sought to expand its audience. In 2005, it allowed high school students to sign on. But it was the 2006 decision to open it up to the general public that drew howls from its original audience and now facebook is the largest social networking with more than 100 million facebookers and has made Zuckerberg a young billionaire.
Facebook Blacberry
Now, some cellphones also provide facebook softwares. It means, now you can even facebooking via cellphones. When I am away, which I always do now, I will update my status, photos, and responds to facebook messages thorugh my blackberry.
I also experienced an event whereby one of my photos became a really hot issue. The caption was not meant to provoke anybody but it turned otherwise....

Deklrasi Klang
Deklarasi Klang
Gubal Akta Hak Asasi Manusia, Mansuhkan Akta Keselamatan Dalam Negeri (ISA)
3 Oktober 2008
Kerajaan BN membebaskan Raja Petra Kamarudin, Hindraf 5 dan semua tahanan ISA serta-merta;
