PETITION TO THE INSPECTOR-GENERAL OF POLICE
Nathaniel (Nat) Tan, 26, is a prominent blogger and socio-political activist. He is a member the People’s Justice Party and one of the webmasters of the party websites. Nat, a graduate of Harvard University is also a known humanitarian worker, serving as far as Sierra Leone and closer to us, Aceh. He is also the secretary to the chairman of the Foundation for the Future, Anwar Ibrahim.
On Friday, 13th July 2007, he was arrested by the Malaysian police over a comment and link posted on his blog, Jelas.info, which points to a website exposing the ‘fee-for freedom’ scandal involving a deputy Minister. He is now being detained for an investigation over an offence under the Officials Secrets Act.
His arrest and subsequent detention is unjustified and political motivated.
Nat is a young, responsible, conscious activist and blogger. Malaysia needs more people like him instead of suppressing his ideals for a better and progressive Malaysia.
We urge the Malaysian Police to drop all pending charges against Nat Tan, and to release him immediately and unconditionally.
